With the ambitious ‘Jilladhikari Nade Halliyakade’ programme being launched, people of Tarikallu village, under Bilikere hobli, Hunsur taluk, are an excited lot, with a lot of hope, for the deputy commissioner’s visit.

Rangaiahana Koppalu hamlet of Tarikallu village, has 100 to 125 families. The people have no basic facilities, like housing. Three or more families live under one roof. Though sites have been sanctioned under Ashraya scheme, they are not handed over to them, it is alleged.

Other problem that needs to be addressed is illegal liquor sales. Five people have died in the last one month, and they were said to be suffering from tuberculosis. DC Rohini Sindhuri should initiate steps to improve healthcare and also upgrade the canals that irrigate the lands in the area, said Dharmapura ZP member Surendra.

There are incidents, where innocent tribals are lured with liquor and their sites are purchased by wealthy people. The tribals may disappear from the hamlets, if this continues, he said.

Tahsildar Basavaraj said that 30 families were sanctioned sites under Ashraya scheme on Survey number 28 of Tarikallu village, 25 years ago.

Measures have been taken and the land documents are handed over to them to construct houses. Around 90 farmers on survey number 43 were denied bank loans as they did not have revenue documents. Measures have been taken to provide them documents, he said.
