Tense situation prevailed at CSIHolds-worth Memorial Hospital following the death of a newborn baby, allegedly due to medical negligence. Parents and relatives staged a protest at the hospital accusing doctors of negligence.

Vinutha, wife of Sunil and a resident of Soppinakeri, had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning as she went into labour. When a normal delivery didn’t take place until evening, the doctors suggested caesarean, for which Sunil had given his consent.

The operation was carried out at around 11 pm, but the doctors declared it as stillborn and informed Sunil and relatives about the incident. However, when Sunil noticed that blood oozing out of the head of the baby, he alleged that death was due to medical negligence.

Later, Sunil and his relatives laid siege to the office of the hospital administrative board director DrSKarat and took him to task. They demanded that the doctors on call should be dismissed from service due to negligence.

Police arriving late at the hospital further angered the protesters. Later, the police convinced the protesters and registered a case atMandi police station.
