Disgrace to Kodagu culture: MP

Addressing reporters here on Wednesday, Vishwanath said, “the Assembly Speaker, who has the responsibility of protecting the rights of the people’s representatives, damaged the democratic system. It is unfortunate that the window panes of the Municipality hall has been broken, nominations papers were torn, tables were toppled and life threat was given to the election officer. People of Kodage will agitate, if the situation continues like this.”

Further, Vishwanath demanded that Speaker K G Bopaiah should resign on moral grounds. “It is testimony to the lawlessness situation prevailing in the State that there is no protection to an MP here,” he added. MLC T John accused that the police in Kodagu district have become puppets of the BJP. “We have doubts as to whether there is a government here or not,” he questioned adding that the officials in the State follow the guidelines of the ruling party.

DCC President Veena Achaiah said that the BJP members, who were anticipating defeat in the election, stooped to such a levels that they assaulted a woman journalist too. “It was a  heinous act. They will make Karnataka, a Bihar, if they were elected to zilla panchayats and taluk panchayats,” she added.
