JOIN USDK collects Rs 1.75 crore for flood victims
A total of Rs 7,16,822 was accumulated by organising Padayatras which were led by people’s representatives, government officials and volunteers of various organisers at various places the City. Meanwhile, cheques amounting to Rs 20,37,761 were collected, taking the total collection to Rs 27,54,583, on Thursday.
Separate groups led by Minister Palemar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA N Yogish Bhat, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) Mayor M Shanker Bhat, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj, Superintendent of Police Dr A S Rao, MCC Commissioner Dr Vijayaprakash and District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura collected cash and cheques from the public through padayatra.
Addressing a press conference at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Palemar said that the District Administration has collected a total of Rs 1,74,83,727 towards the Chief Minister’s relief fund as on Thursday. The total amount collected through Deputy Commissioner’s Office between October 5 to 8 is Rs 1,36,83,144, while the contributions from other places in the taluk was Rs 10,46,000, Palemar said adding that efforts will be continued to raise more money towards the cause.
7,000 sarees from Kateel temple
Palemar said that the Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple authorities have assured to donate 7,000 sarees to the victims of flood. Several banks, public sector companies and corporate institutions have also come forward to donate money for the cause. A sum of Rs 1 crore has been contributed to the fund by the co-operative banks in the district, he added.
Palemar said that the builders in Dakshina Kannada have decided to adopt a village with the help of institutions. A decision will be taken in this regard after holding discussions with institutions, he added.
Rs 10 lakh, meals from IFKCA
The International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA) donated Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to provide blankets to flood-hit victims, who take shelter in temporary camps. IFKCA Chairman Ronald Colaco stated in a press release that they have requested its members in Karwar, Davangere, Haveri, Bellery, Raichur Districts to provide hot meals (Rice Pulao & Banana Sukka) to about 5,000 victims in the relief camps.
Karnataka Bank’s gesture
Mangalore-based Karnataka Bank Limited has decided to issue Demand Drafts at par in respect of donations to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in the twin states.
A press release from the Bank stated that necessary instructions have been issued on this behalf to all its branches across the country.
Meanwhile, members of the KSRTC Staff and Workers Union Mangalore division and Mangalore University Post Graduate Teachers’ Association have decided to contribute one day’s salary towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. South Kanara District Chess Association (SKDCA) has decided to provide 1,000 bedsheets, 500 sarees, 1,000 lungis and 1,000 shirts to the flood-hit victims. Those who would like to contribute towards SKDCA’s relief fund can remit their amout to Acccount Number 487 25001 01506601 at the Urwa branch of Karnataka Bank, stated a press release from SKDCA.
KCCI, MSEZL’s contributions
Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) President Srinivas S Kamath handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh towards Chief Minister’ Releif Fund.
Meanwhile, Mangalore Special Economic Zone Limited Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer A G Pai donated Rs 5 lakh towards the relief fund on behalf of the company on Thursday.
