Girisha, Vikas Gowda to grace Dasara sports meet

When the instances of athletes improving their feat using dope is on rise, how can Dasara Sports Sub-committee remain in oblivion without taking note of it.

Chairman of the sub-committee M A Mohan said that the organisers will keep a tab on participating sports persons to ensure they are not stimulating their stamina using drugs. Replying to media query, Mohan said, as there is no provision to take action against such cases in State-level sports meet, the organisers will issue a warning of cancelling their participation if the athletes are found guilty.

Inauguration

The State-level dasara sports meet will be inaugurated on October 14 at 3 pm at Chamundi Vihar stadium. Silver medallist in paralympics H N Girisha of Hassan and Olympian discus thrower Vikas Gowda will take part in the inaugural session.

In all 20 events have been organised for men and women, while bodybuilding is for men only.

The other events include; athletics, basketball, ball badminton, badminton, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, net ball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, throwball, volleyball, chess, weight lifting and traditional games; pagade, chowkabara etc.,

Winners

The first three winners in individual category pocket Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively, and in group competitions; it will be Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000. Record in athletics will fetch Rs 10,000 cash prize. Food and accumulation, transportation and medical and uniforms have been arranged. The sports torch will be lighted at the temple in Chamundi Hill and will pass through 31.2 km before culminating at Nimbujadevi temple at Nazarbad here.

Working president of the sub-committee and joint director (in-charge) of department of sports and youth services J M Appachchu, secretary and assistant director K Suresh and others were present.

Students too can play a role

 Various competitions have been organised for children too in different age groups.
A V Vidya Urs recently in a press meet said, Children’s Dasara has been planned for three days from October 16 and students from class one to ten from across the district will be participating in various events. Competitions like fancy dress, drawing, folk dance, yoga and also dance have been organised. As many as 750 specially-abled children and their parents will also be participating. On October 23 at 4 pm specially-abled students will be performing cultural programmes at Kuppanna Park. The participating students will be taken to Balbhavan, Palace and also Zoo. The other events include exhibition of science and learning equipment besides Children Fair.
