Government committed to develop Kodagu: R Ashok

Rs 25 crore package envisioned by the CM is being implemented

Speaking after hoisting the tricolour in Madikeri on Saturday, he said Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has given priority in the budget to give equal opportunity for everybody.
Listing the plans for Kodagu, Ashok said the Rs 25 crore package for Kodagu envisioned by the CM is being implemented. Besides, handing over of land for construction of Madikeri bus stand, establishment of idol of freedom fighter Guddemane Appayyagowda, General K S Thimmaiah memorial and so on. “A few projects have been delayed and the government is aware of it. But the government is committed to implement all the projects,” he reiterated.

As many as 1,430 filed related to Jamma Bane have been cleared and anomalies in about 1,300 RTCs have been set right, he said and added that anomalies in land records of about 40 villages in Virajpet and Somwarpet taluks have been completed. Retired Air Marshal K C Kariappa, MLC M C Nanaiah, ZP President N S Rajarao, CMC President P D Ponnappa, DC Ashwathanarayana Gowda, SP Manjunath Annigeri and AC Akram Pasha among others were present.

Cultural programmes

The cultural programmes by students as part of the 63rd Independence Day celebrations at the Madikeri Kote premises here on Saturday enthralled the spectators. The band concert by students of Bharathiya Vidyabhavan following flag hoisting by Minister for Transport R Ashok was appreciated by the audience. The group dance by the kids of Little Flower was also applauded.

The group dance by the students of St Joseph’s School and St Michael’s School, Somana Kunitha and Veerabhadra Kunitha by the art troupes of Mandya district were special attractions. The minister distributed compensation cheques to the kin of the martyrs of Kargil war. The winners of various race competitions organised by the Sports Department were also honoured. The top scorers of SSLC and PUC examinations were felicitated.

ZP Planning Officer Motappa, DDPI Mohammed M Bashir, Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director K Damodar, Information Officer Vinodchandra were  honoured for their service.
