Holiday season cheers tourism sector in Kodagu

As a result, resorts, home stays were looking deserted without tourist for the last one year in Kodagu. Howeever, now holiday season have brought cheers to tourism sector, thanks to the extended weekends and Christmas holidays for school kids. Thousands of tourists have visited Kodagu for the last few days. Almost all the resorts, Home stays, lodges have been booked on Friday itself. With the concreting of the roads, movement of vehicles on main roads had been banned.

Owing to the increased flow of tourists, the narrow roads were blocked and the movement of vehicles were disrupted on Saturday evening. Even police found it difficult to control the traffic.

The tourists who visited Madikeri on Saturday evening had to starve as almost all the hotels were booked and some of them had to return back. As the home stays, resorts were booked, some tourists had to spend their nights in their vehicles itself. In Club Mahindra Resorts, of 188 rooms, 187 rooms have been booked on Sunday. It is difficult to book any rooms till January 2, said an official at North Club. The situation at budgetary hotels, lodges and home stay were no different.

Good business
“In the last two days, large number of tourists have come to Madikeri, which helped in our business. Having unable to supply food, we have send back some of the tourists,” said Choice Hotel owner Hameed.

However, untimely rain has dampened the spirit of those who had come to enjoy holidays. Cloudy weather along with drizzling made some of them to stay inside. It is expected that the inflow of tourists might increase till January 2 or 3. However, lack of basic facilities in many of the tourist spots have been causing inconvenience to the tourists. District administration and government should try to provide basic infrastructure in tourist places, said a tourist.

In Kushalnagar
A large number of tourists from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh visited Cauvery Nisargadhama, Bailukuppe, Tibetan camp, Dubare elephant camp on Sunday. About 4,234 tourists visited Cauvery Nisargadhama on Sunday. 2,648 visited Dubare elephant camp. About 5,328 tourists visited Bailukuppe Tibetan temple. Tourists visit Cauvery Nisargadhama, Dubare elephant camp, Jungle Lodge and Resorts, Tibetan camp, Golden temple, Harangi reservoir, and then proceed to Talacauvery, Bhagamandala, Abbey falls, Irpu falls, Koodloor ‘Veerabhoomi,’ ‘Coorg halli mane,’ Parampara and other places.
