Mysuru, the City of Palaces, is experiencing mid-summer with temperature levels rising constantly for 15 days. The maximum temperature on April 1, Thursday, was 37.9 degree Celsius, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The minimum temperature was 20 degree Celsius.

It may be mentioned that Mysuru recorded the highest of 37.9 degree Celsius after a gap of 88 years, on March 7, 2019. The same temperature level of 37.9 degree Celsius was recorded on April 1, 2021, according to IMD.

The maximum temperature is hovering between 33 degree Celsius and 35.2 degree Celsius from March 16 to March 31. The minimum temperature was between 16.6 degrees and 18.8 degree Celsius in the month of March. However, on April 1, Thursday, the temperature shot up to 37.9 degrees, that is, 2.7 degree Celsius higher than March 31 (35.2).

Brace for more sweltering heat in April, as the IMD has predicted that the maximum temperature will be 38 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature hovering between 20 and 21 degree Celsius in the next week, from April 2 to 6.

Though the IMD has not predicted any rainfall for the next five days, there may be scattered rains in the region, if the same weather condition prevails, according to scientists.

Speaking to DH, N Narendra Babu, Research Associate, Organic Farming Research Station, Naganahalli, said, “There is a constant increase in the temperature levels in March and it may cross 38 degrees in April-May.

“The rise in temperature levels is experienced across the country. However, unexpected rains may be received due to rise in temperature, as a result of evaporation, cloud formation and other aspects. Usually, it rains by the end of March. By next week, there are possibilities of pre-monsoon rains. Pre-monsoon rains will be accompanied by thunder and lightning and will be around 10% of the annual rainfall,” he said.
