Last Updated 29 December 2009, 18:47 IST

In many areas, which had moderate rainfall had strong bolts of lightning.
The rains that started on Saturday evening has been lashing uninterupted over the last 4 days causing great worries to paddy cultivator and coffee planters.

The farmers have harvested about 50 per cent of paddy and are now struggling to save the harvested crops. Large quantity of crops have been left in the fields itself. Though some farmers had got the raw paddy crops and stocked it in the granary, they are not able to dry it. The hay too are being rotten in the rains.

Coffee is the worst victim of this extended rainfall. A large quantity of coffee beans have withered and fallen on ground, which are of no use. It is unfortunate that the rains have started lashing at a point of time when Arabica beans were fetching good market price.
