JOIN USKodagu bundh on Nov 16 imminent
Addressing a press meet on Saturday, Federation Joint Secretary Pandanda Naresh, office-bearers B T Dinesh, Madhu Bopanna and others said 90 per cent of the coffee growers in the district have supported the bundh call. Very few are opposing it for their selfish needs.
There is no question of backtracking from the bundh call. Bundh is not against any government or any individual. However our main demand is the announcement of special loan waiver package.
“We will not cause any inconvenience to the students who will be writing their examination on Monday. If any student is caused inconvenience, then they can approach the Federation office-bearer,” they added.
To a query on the opposition to the proposed bundh call by Karnataka Growers Federation and Somwarpet taluk Coffee Growers Association, he said “some are opposing to make a division between small and large growers. Large growers should respond to the problems of the small growers. We have supported the cause of large growers.”
“After Kodagu was unified with the Karnataka, State government started neglecting Kodagu. The Government will be given three months ultimatum to develop the roads, solve the electricity problem, inclusion of estate labourers in the BPL list. If the demands are not fulfiled, then a protest will be staged,” warned B T Dinesh.
Neutral
District Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to remain neutral to the proposed bundh call. Somwarpet taluk coffee growers federation office-bearers have expressed opposition to the bundh call.
No decision on holiday for schools
Schools and colleges have not officially declared holiday in view of Kodagu bundh call given by Kodagu Coffee Growers Federation on November 16.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, DDPI Narasimhaiah said depending on the situation, school authorities can declare holiday. However, scheduled PU examination on November 16 has been postponed. The exam will be held at the end of all the examinations, said PU Board Director Cheluvappa.
Deputy Commissioner has directed SP to take measures to help the students to appear for the examination at Field Marshal K M Kariappa College on November 16.
DC K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda banned the sale of liquor in the district on November 16 between 6 am and 7 pm, in the backdrop of bundh to maintain law and order. The sale of liquor has been banned even in bar and restaurants, hotels and clubs. All the three Tahsildars have been directed to remain in the headquarters to maintain law and order.
