Kodagu population goes down by 5 pc in four years

According to the Social and Educational Survey conducted during the months of April and May, the population of Kodagu has decreased by five percent when compared to the figures of 2011 census. There is a reduction of 5,646 families and 26,161 population, over a period of four years. 

BCM Department Official K V Suresh said there were 1,42,716 families and the population was 5,54,519 according to the 2011 census. But, according to the recent survey, the total number of families is 1,37,070 and the population is 5,28,358.

In Madikeri rural, the numbers of families and population were 28,191 and 1,13,202 respectively,  according to 2011 census.

According to the Social and Educational Survey, these figures are 26,620 and 1,07,845 respectively. There is a difference of 1,571 families and 5,357 population.

In Madikeri town limits, the numbers of families and population were 8,518 and 33,381, according to 2011 census. According to the recent survey, these figures are 7,837 and 1,07,845 respectively. There is a difference of 681 families and 3,539 population.

In the rural areas of Somwarpet taluk, the numbers of families and population were 47,350 and 1,84,450 respectively in 2011 census. In the recent survey, the numbers of families and population are 47,914, and 1,84,588 respectively. There is a difference of 564 families and 138 population.

In Somwarpet town limits, the numbers of families and population were 1,956, and  6,729 respectively, according to 2011 census. According to the Social and Educational Survey, the numbers of families and population are 1,789 and 6,396 respectively. There is a difference of 167 families and 333population.

In Kushalnagar Town Panchayat limits, the numbers of families and population were 3,788 and 15,326 respectively, according to 2011 census. As per the Social and Educational Survey, the numbers of families and population are 3,787and 14,857 respectively. There is a difference of one family and 469 population.

In Virajpet taluk rural areas, the number of families and population were 48,533 and 1,84,185 in 2011 census. As per the Social and Educational Survey, the numbers of families and population are 45,531 and 1,70,763 respectively. There is a difference of 3002 families and 13,422 population.

In Virajpet Town Panchayat limits, the numbers of families and population were 4,380 and 17,246  respectively, according to 2011 census. As per the Social and Educational Survey, the numbers of families and population re 3,592 and  14,067 respectively. There is a difference of 788  families and 3,179 population.

DC chairs meeting
In-charge Deputy Commissioner M Koorma Rao chaired a meeting in this regard on Thursday.

A prolonged discussion was held on the decreae in the number of families and population.
The reasons analysed for the difference were empty houses, migration of families, houses being used for commercial purposes, paying guest rooms, hostels, families shifted due to road widening and other nine points, according to the officials who conducted the
survey.

The DC directed the officials to collect the information on the details of registration of houses, houses provided under rehabilitation schemes and migration.

Additinal Deputy Commissioner M Sathish Kumar said that the details will be sent
to the government.

Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Officer K V Suresh said the filled forms in connection with the social and educational survey, are maintained by officers and have been categorised as A, B and C, indicating SC, ST and others. 

The work of placing them in separate polythene covers is in progress. Later, they will
be placed in boxes, Suresh said.

Rectification onDuring the computerisation process, it has been found that the caste codes and categories A,B and C letters have not been mentioned while filling the information.

Such forms are resent to carry out the needful. About 80 percent of the rectification is done, he added.
