Mega job mela evokes good response

More than 100 companies participated in the mega Job Fair organised by Department of Industrial Training and Employment, in association with Department of Skills Development and district administration, at Dasara Exhibition Grounds in Mysuru on Friday.

Hundreds of aspirants thronged the venue, with many software companies, industries, manufacturing companies and others taking part in the job fair. The mela was held from 10 am to 4 pm.

Candidates having educational qualifications of SSLC, PUC, degrees, post-graduation, diploma and engineering courses, who are in the age group of 18 to 35 years were eligible to participate in the job fair.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar said that more than 10,000 jobs were in the offing for the aspirants. The situation is slowly returning to normalcy from the Covid crisis. Thousands of people had lost their jobs during Covid and were facing a very difficult situation. However, the companies have started recruitment, with the intervention of the Labour department. The rule that the women would be allowed to work 24x7 in IT sectors have been extended to other sectors also, Hebbar said.

The minister handed over offer letters to a few candidates on the occasion. Officers of various departments were present.

The minister also said that efforts are on to sort out the issue of Toyota company near Bengaluru, which has been closed due to differences between the administration and employees.

Asian Paints, BEML, Infosys, J K Tyres and various companies participated. Some companies issued offer letters on the spot. Some companies had collected other details of the candidates and assured to call them within a week.

Nagesh, one of the aspirants, said, “I had come searching for a suitable job. I have got offer letter on the spot, with Rs 16,000 salary.”

MLA S A Ramadass said, “Realising that many people had lost their jobs during the Covid pandemic, the job mela was organised to bring several prestigious companies under one roof. Those, who failed to clear the interviews may register their names. They will be provided skilled training to help them get jobs.”

MLA Yathindra Siddaramaiah, MUDA Chairman H V Rajeev, Exhibition Authority Chairman Hemanth Kumar Gowda, BJP Mysuru president Srivatsa, Deputy Mayor C Sridhar, Labour Commissioner Thammanna were present.
