Men in khaki turn sports champs

The men in khaki, who will be on guard for 365 days a year, appeared relaxed and actively took part in the annual district police sports meet organised at the Police Parade grounds, here on Saturday.

More than 200 police personnel from all the six taluks of the district participated in the event, which held from 9 am to 6 pm.

Unmindful of the biting cold, the policemen had gathered at the grounds early morning to prove their mettle. As policemen vied with each other to take part in almost all the events, they relived their college day memories.

“During my school and college days, I was the sports champion. I used to lead my school athletics team and teachers were appreciative of me.

I was allowed to go to different places to participate in sports. Today’s event reminds me of my good old days of sports,” said a police officer. While some of them earned praise from their seniors for their outstanding performance, others said they will do better next time.

District and Sessions Court judge S Y Erannavar inaugurated the meet and later, held an interaction with the participant. District Superintendent of police N Shivaprasad, Deputy Superintendent of police A B Devaiah, circle inspectors Mahesh Kumar, Shivakumar and others were present.
