'M'lore airport railway station in pipeline'

Southern Railways Divisional Railway Manager S K Raina said that they found suitable land for the construction of railway station only at Jokatte, which is adjacent to Mangalore airport. “Land in other places close to Mangalore airport are not suitable as those are all hilly terrain. The process of land acquisition will begin soon,” he said at a meeting of stakeholders organised by the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Hall here on Tuesday.

The passengers  who use the Mangalore airport have to shell out huge amount to hire private vehicle from and to the Airport. Opening of railway station at Jokatte will help the passengers in a big way.

With the inauguration of the new terminal of the airport, the flow of passengers has increased considerably. Mangalore Airport Director M R Vasudeva told Deccan Herald that an average of 900 flights land and take off in Mangalore airport per month. “Railway station in close proximity to the Airport has been a long pending demand. The railway station will make travelling from and to the airport more economical,” he added.
