Mobile planetarium for Science Day

Pilikula Regional Science Centre Society has organised programmes on Sir C V Raman’s birth anniversary observed as National Science Day on February 28.

K S Rao, a director of the society, said, “A mobile planetarium from Mumbai is expected to attract more number of students. Seating arrangements are available for 50 people. The existing planetarium at Pilikula is of analog type.”

V Prasanna, acting executive director of Sri Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama, said that the programme is being organised with MCC on ‘Science and Technology for Specially Abled Persons’. An exhibition on science and other inventions, aero and drone show, digital mobile planetarium show and other activities, all centred around specially-abled community have been organised from 9 am to 5.30 pm.

The Department of Science and Technology has organised a quiz contest in the categories of high school and college students and general public. Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the programme. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader will be the guest of honour. Moodbidri MLA K Abhaychandra Jain will be chief guest.

As a prelude to Science Day, a workshop has been organised at the science centre on February 27 for the benefit of teachers from schools and colleges for disabled persons and interested students on improving intellectual ability of such students.
