'No proposal on rly line via Kodagu'

Speaking to reporters in this regard, District-in-Charge Minister C H Vijayshankar, on Thursday said that the Government will decide on the said issue only after a proposal is received.

“The Kodavas are expressing opposition to the said proposal. Since nothing is concrete about this proposal, it would be incorrect to make any statement at this stage,” he said adding that there are two possible routes to Talacherry, viz., Nanjangudu route and Kodagu route. There is a need to conduct study on pros and cons of the proposal along with the rail route survey.

“The railway department is yet to arrive at a conclusion with regard to the route. Once it comes to a conclusion, the State Government will look into the proposal and make a decision,” he said and added that State Government will co-operate with the department completely.

Nisargadhama

Forest officials have submitted a proposal of Rs 3 crore for expansion of a Nisargadhama near Kushalnagar. The Government has given its nod to the proposal. The Minister informed that the required funds will be released in June.

He further said that Old Central Workshop land in Madikeri will be utilised to put up Deputy  Commissioner’s office complex. “The papers for the same are at the CM’s office. The works will be started soon,” the Minister said.

Tourism officer

Kodagu district does not have a Tourism Officer. When the issue was brought to the notice of the Minister, he said that a high level meeting of Horticulture Department officials will be held on April 18. Tourism Department Principal Secretary will be attending the meeting too.

“The issue will be brought to his notice,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Ashwathnarayana Gowda, SP Manjunath Annigeri among others were present.
