Last Updated 02 January 2010, 15:50 IST

Chairing a taluk-level Janaspandana programme at the Town Hall here on Saturday, Bhat said that it will be very difficult for widows, senior citizens and other poor scheme beneficiaries to open bank account depositing Rs 500. Hence, all national banks should help them by providing minimum balance accounts, he added.

When a social worker Raju raised the issue in the meet, Bhat directed the District Administration to write to the District Lead Bank in this regard. He said that the Lead Bank should direct all banks to extend savings account to government scheme beneficiaries with a minimum deposit of not more than Rs 25.

NH 48 - 17 link road

Former deputy mayor Sesamma urged that the road between Bajal and Padeel should be widened immediately. In reply, MLA said that the government has proposal of developing the link road between NH 48 from Bajal to NH 17 at Mogeru. However, lack of fund and non-availability of land hinders the development works, he said adding that residents of the area should co-operate by extending land to convert the existing road into a 50 feet one.  Further, Sesamma said that many bus owners, who have route permits, do not run buses on the specified routes. Bhat directed the Road Transport authorities to take necessary action against bus owners. He also directed the officials to discuss the issue with the Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj. Officials informed MLA that recommendation to suspend two permits, out of 15 issued on Bajal - Padil route, has already been sent to the Transport Commissioner.

Apathy of MCC official

Corporator Nagendrakumar brought to MLA’s notice that Mangalore City Corporation officials are showing negligent attitude by not issuing trade licence to applicants. He said that an application for trade licence submitted by one Lokesh of Jeppinamogaru on February 2, 2009 has not been acknowledged so far even after 11 months. The file was forwarded to the health officer’s office on October 23. However, the required trade licence has not been issued to the applicant so far, he informed. Bhat directed the MCC officials to issue the licence immediately.

Boat House

MLA answering to the queries of social activist U Rama Rao regarding tourism development in the district, said that the government has plans to introduce Kerala model boat house in Mangalore. The three decked boat will be brought to the city within three months, he added.

MUDA Commissioner P G Ramesh, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Kantharaju and officials of various departments were present.

Widows’ woes continue

About 87 beneficiaries of Rashtriya Kutumba Bhadratha Yojna (financial aid for widows), not yet received the scheme benefit Rs 10,000, even after two years.
The Revenue Department had suspended the concerned clerk, Rajagopal, based on charges of fraudulence two years ago and a criminal case was also registered against him. However, no measures were taken to distribute cheques to deserved beneficiaries. When the matter has been raised in the meeting by former corporator Muralidhar Bolar, MLA directed Tahsildar Ravichandra Nayak to make arrangements for the release of amount to the beneficiaries immediately.

It can be recalled that the same issue was discussed in the previous Janaspandana meet, which was convened by MLA Yogish Bhat on July 4 at the Town Hall. The MLA had then directed the tahsildar to make arrangements for the release of amount to the beneficiaries immediately. But nothing went fruitful even after two Janaspandana meets.
