Parents reluctant to send children to school due to Covid

The parents in rural Mysuru are reluctant to send their children to school due to rising Covid-19 cases and the teachers are paying visits to their houses convincing them to return to schools.

In a review meeting of Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP), at Zilla Panchayat, chaired by ZP President B C Parimala Shyam on Wednesday, Deputy Director for Public Instructions (DDPI) Panduranga informed that the teachers are visiting the houses of the children who are not attending the classes.

Majority of the students belonging to farming community are not attending the classes. The teachers are convincing the parents as well as the students to come back to the schools, he said.

District Health Officer Dr T Amarnath said, "The department has taken several measures to contain the spread of Covid-19. The spread of virus is rampant at schools, colleges, film theatres, and ceremonies like wedding and other programmes."

The DHO said, "As many as 18 students of a school in Bannur and their contacts tested positive for Covid-19. As many as 78 persons were found to be the contacts of the students. The hostel authorities have been warned to ensure that the inmates wear masks and abide by the Covid-19 norms. Covid test is mandatory for the inmates who return from their native places."

ZP Vice-President Gowramma Somashekar, Chief Executive Officer A M Yogeesh, Health and Education standing committee president Manjunath and others were present.
