Last Updated 06 December 2009, 17:22 IST

For the night beat or patrolling police team, 50 citizens will be added as members in every police station. One beat team will have one Head Constable, three constables. Depending on the jurisdiction of the police station, number of villages and population, the number of police in each beat will be increased. Barring Madikeri town, in other places, the process of collecting name, address and mobile numbers of citizens is almost complete. Within two weeks, such system will come into force in the district, said Superintendent of Police Manjunath K Annigeri.

To carry out the work of police-friendly initiative, the individual should not be involved in any criminal activities. Ex-servicemen, teachers, advocates, and common man are being included in the team of night beat or patrolling. Every patrolling team will have 50 citizens. Information on any crimes can be given to the police-friendly public or night patrolling team. The name of the informers will be kept a secret.

The system aims at cracking any crime with the help of public in the locality. The system was the dream child of DGP and will come into force across the State.

ID card

The public who will perform duty in police-friendly initiative will be given an identity card from the department. The patrolling team police and the police station will have the name, address and mobile number of the selected citizens. Every public will also have the mobile number of the police. The public can also give information to the night patrolling team at any time under any circumstances. 95 per cent on the work on new system is completed across the district. “Apart from this, in every police station limits, we have prepared a list of anti-social elements. As a result, the new system will help in keeping an eye on their movement,” he said.

‘Meet on number plates’

Deputy Commissioner who is also the RTA chairman has been urged to take suitable action with regard to the changing of number plate colour from white to yellow.

In fact, police department had set December 15 as the deadline to change the colour of the number plates. The DC will convene a meeting after MLC elections and take suitable action in this regard.
