Police sports meet kicks off in Mangalore

He said there was no major communal related problems in the district for the last two years. The events like visit of the President, Hindu Samajotsava and Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections were handled with care by the police and the district administration.

Sports meet will help in showcasing the talents and developing sportsmanship among police personnel. The sports meet was organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Police and Mangalore Police Commissionerate. Teams from DAR, Mangalore City, Panambur Sub-Division, Puttur Sub-Division and Women police participated in the sports meet. The two-day sports meet will include 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 metres race, 4X100 metres relay, javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, hammer throw, long jump, high jump and triple jump for men and 100, 200 metres race, discus throw, long jump and high jump for women. Tug of war, kabaddi, volley ball are the team events and cricket match and marathon are the open events. There were special games for the officers, ministerial staff and for the invitees.
“We have 24 hours of duty and a sports meet is a relaxation for us. It gives us a change from our routine,” said a Woman Police Constable Nainashree speaking to Deccan Herald.
