Protest against Railway's move

Last Updated 21 August 2009, 18:07 IST

They alleged that the Railway officials have asked them to vacate the houses in 20 days and have put up a board to that effect near the houses. Hundreds of dalit families will be thrown into streets if the Railways proceed further. Dalit families have been residing in the area even prior to laying of railway tracks. The houses have been constructed under various schemes and even schools, anganwadi, temple and community parks have been constructed in the area. The Railway officials, however, are attempting to evict the residents without any prior notice, they alleged.

The protesters demanded that the Railway Department should change its decision and shift the track away from their houses. They also staged a dharna in front of the deputy commissioner’s house and submitted a memorandum to G S Nayak, the head quarters assistant to DC.

Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leaders K C Rajakanth, Milton Venkatesh and others took part.
