Pvt schools offer help to Kodagu kids

Private schools across the state have extended a helping hand to students from rain-ravaged Kodagu.

While some private schools have come forward to offer education, others are willing to provide accommodation as well for these students.

Santosh, secretary, Shantala Vidyapeetha school, Mysuru said that the school was willing to offer free education to students whose families have sufferred losses in the calamity. “Much focus is not laid on schools during rehabilitation. We extend our support in this regard,” he said.

This school has formed a team which would submit a report on schools that are in need of uniforms and books. “We will admit students if need be. Till the situation comes normalcy, we will offer them education. If their condition is found to be worse, we are also contemplating offering free education to a few children till class 10,” he said.

Some schools are also willing to offer textbooks and meet other needs of students.

Rekha from Little Lily’s Education Society, Bengaluru, said, “We will support the cause. We are waiting to know the needs of Kodagu schools.”

Shashi Kumar, general secretary, Karnataka Associated Management of Private Schools said that a few residential schools in Bengaluru and Kodagu were also willing to provide residential facility and schooling for children affected by the floods.
