Railway cops arrest a gang of four women

A gang of four women made a vain bid to rob a woman at Nanjangud railway station, only to land in the police net, on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Angura, Chinman, Nageshwari and Madhuri alias Madhur, all hailing from Dharwad. The four disguised as women seeking alms along with kids, allegedly cut two gold chains of a woman traveller, when the latter was trying to board the train to Mysore at 10.30 am.

The victim along with her family was returning to her native K R Nagar after taking part in the Pancha Maharathotsava of Srikanteshwara Swamy temple in Nanjangud. The victim had however pinned the two gold chains, she was wearing, to her blouse. When the chain was cut, the loose end remained with the victim. The victim raised an alarm, alerting the railway police. The four tried to claim innocence, but the police took them to custody and arrested.

Engineer drowns

A young engineer from Bangalore met the watery grave at the backwaters of KRS near Haleundavadi in Yelwal hobli on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Darshan (26). Darshan was on a picnic along with his eight friends from Bangalore, when the tragedy occurred. A case has been registered.
