Railway station to be spruced up soon

Last Updated 28 April 2011, 17:37 IST

According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager for South Western Railways Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu, the station is expected to wear a new look with cement road within a span of 20 days.

As far as the passengers are concerned, this is indeed creating a lot of inconvenicence with railways deciding to take up work during the peak holiday season. “Why did they have to do it now? Not too many people travel between December and February, not many people travel on holidays. Season would have been apt too, with winter having set in,” says senior citizen Padmanabhaiah.

He had to face hardship with autos blocking the approach path, and he was forced to walk quite a distance with his wife in tow to board the train.

Holiday season has kicked in big time. Bus stand and railway station have been the busiest spots in the city. While for the authorities the work was ‘long pending’, for people it is inconvinience and also an eyesore.

“I think we have an uncanny knack to mess things up around tourist season. Just as Dasara draws closer, we have Corporation working on roads at the last minute.

I cannot blame the railways entirely on this, but the works being taken up during peak holiday season do present a rather shabby picture about the city we take most pride in,” says Ramesh Prabhu, a businessman who owns a shop on the busy Devaraj Urs road.
