Last Updated 10 August 2011, 18:46 IST

The residents complained that the closure of the crossing since the past two months had inconvienced those travelling to the city and the APMC marketyard everyday and raised slogans against Union minister K H Muniyappa and Railways officers.

‘Pleas failed’

They alleged their repeated pleas to the Railways had failed to evoke any response.

Residents from Gajaladinne, Vinobha Nagar, Sanitorium, Chikkahasala, Dhimba, Dhimbachamanahalli, Kooteri, Lakshmisagara, Basavanatha, Kodiramasandra and Kogilahalli took part in large numbers.

Police managed to prevent the protesters who were keen on staging a road blockade too.
The residents, who threatened to intensify the protest if the level crossing is not re-opened in a week, submitted an appeal to Railways executive engineer Nagaraj.
