JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy has alleged that there were irregularities to the tune of Rs 60,000 crore, in connection to purchase of power for the State. To save face, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar had made a secret pact with the BJP, to prevent exposure of the scam, he alleged.

Speaking at a press meet, he said that this was the reason why Shivakumar, who is also the chairman of a cabinet committee which is looking into alleged irregularities in the purchase, was hesitating to reveal the documents related to the same. He said that there irregularities worth Rs 60,000 crore was during the past five years alone.

“We had demanded the State to conduct an enquiry into production, distribution and purchase of power from the year 1990.

However, the State government has appointed a committee which will only look into the irregularities of the last five years. Considering the stance of the State government, it is clear it wants to cover up the irregularities,” he said. He added that only a CBI enquiry would reveal the extent of irregularities.

If the cabinet committee does not disclose the documents demanded by JD(S), during a meeting scheduled to be held on November 25, future course of action will be decided by the party, he said.

Kickbacks

He alleged that some ministers of the State government had received kickbacks, totalling Rs 300 crore from liquor dealers. He also wondered how Chief Minister Siddaramaiah could be  unaware of the matter.
