Students eat at place of worship; teacher sent on leave

Following the furore over students having meals during the inauguration of a place of worship belonging to another community at Kokkada in Belthangady taluk, the in-charge headteacher was sent on a 10-day leave.

A probe into the incident was entrusted to Samagra Shikshana Jilla Upa Yojane Coordinator, sources in the department of public instruction said.

The place of worship belonging to a minority community at Kokkada was inaugurated on March 19.

The students of a nearby high school were invited to the place to have mid-day meals. The incident where students had food was discussed widely on social media. “There was a lot of opposition in social media and among the public for sending students to the inauguration of the place of worship. In this background, the in-charge headteacher was sent on a 10-day leave. Action will be taken after a report is submitted to us,” DDPI Malleswamy told DH.
