Nava Karnataka Film Academy will be organising a three-day international film fest in Hubballi and Dharwad from May 21.

Speaking to media persons after launching of fest’s logo at a private hotel in Hubballi on Tuesday, fest In-charge Altaf Jahangir said more than 120 movies, including 26 international, will be screened on eight screens of Hubballi-Dharwad. This apart 60 short movies will also be screened, he said.

Golden Butterflies awards will be presented in seven categories, he said and added that more than 300 foreign delegates are expected to arrive for the first international film fest in North Karnataka. He said while students (aged between 14 and 18) will get free entry to movies, the delegates have to pay Rs 1,100.

To encourage the participation of more students, the Academy will be organising a talent hunt in schools and colleges.

Earlier, addressing the media persons Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) office-bearer Sa Ra Govind said it is a positive development that Dharwad is hosting an international-level film fest.

“People of Karnataka are large-hearted. They welcome movies from all languages and states. However, what saddens me the most is that Kannada films do not get the right platforms across India,” he said.

Actor Suman Talwar said the success of the film fest in Dharwad would put the city on the International map. The fest will be a great opportunity for Indians to showcase to the foreign delegates how to live in unity among diversity.
