Toppers in Science aspire to be doctors

Despite improved results, Mysuru district slips to 16th place

Even though the district slipped to 16th position in PUC results, announced online on Monday, the performance of few students came as a respite. By scoring 592 out of 600, H L Keerthana, a science student from Sadvidya PU College in the city, emerged as the top scorer.

Of the total 33,127 candidates who appeared for examinations in the district, 19,395 students passed the examination, resulting in a pass percentage of 65.73 per cent. The district had registered a pass percentage of 58.76 per cent, securing 15th place,during the previous academic year.

Daughter of Lokeshappa H, general manager of Reid and Taylor Unit at Nanjangud and Pushpa, a homemaker, Keerthana said that even though she was confident of scoring good marks, the results came as a surprise. She had scored 592 (98.6 per cent).

Speaking to Deccan Herald,  “I have always been interested in Biology and related subjects. By taking up medicine, my ambition is to render service to poor people and be a good doctor,” she said.

Standing second in the district, with a total of 591 marks (98.5 per cent) is D S Mythri, who is also a student of Sadvidya PU College. She scored 100 in Physics and Biology and 99 in Chemistry and Mathematics.

The daughter of Srinivas B V, a hotelier and Vani, homemaker, Mythri said that she had planned her studies in advance. “Being a student of CBSE syllabus, there was too much to study. Tuition and planning a study schedule helped a lot,” she said. Mythri, who is currently awaiting her CET results, also aspires to take up medicine in the future.

Other toppers in the Science stream, Nischay Prasad (590) and Shivani S Swamy (584), are from Marimallappa’s Colleges.

Son of K M Prasad, a contractor and Dr B P Gayathri, Nischay wants to make a career in the field of bio-technology. He is planning to enrol for B Sc in bio-technology.

In commerce stream, highest marks in the district was secured by Prajwal Aradhya, a student of Sadvidya College in the city. He scored 584 marks ( 97.6) per cent and aspires to become a chartered accountant in the future. “I had set myself a target of securing good marks and prepared for the examinations accordingly. The encouragement of my parents Parameshwara Aradhya, technical manager at Kaynes Technology, Metagalli and homemaker Veena B and teachers also helped,” he said.

Results
During the examinations held in the month of March, of the 33,127 candidates who had appeared, 27,573 candidates were freshers, 4,025 candidates were repeaters and 1,529 private candidates.

In Arts stream, a total of 12,489 candidates had appeared, of which 5,981 passed (47.89 per cent). 10, 824 candidates appeared in Commerce stream, of which 64.25 per cent or 6,954 students passed. In Science, a toal of 9,814 candidates appeared, of which 6,460 candidates passed (64.25 per cent).

Passing percentage in urban area was better than rural areas, and pass percentage of girls was better than that of boys.
