Toppers share common dream to pursue Science

Results of the district show improvement during the year

Most students, who topped in SSLC exams in Mysuru district, the results of which were announced online on Tuesday, hail from different backgrounds.

But their feat in the second level of education after seventh, has brought them together. They want to pursue Science in the next level of education.

For now, Rashmi A G is the topper in Mysuru district, for scoring 99.36 per cent (621/ 625). A student of CFTRI School on KRS Road, in the city, she is the daughter of A G Gopalakrishna, a scientist with the Traditional Food Department at the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) and Dr H Sudha, working at Aditya Hospital.
When contacted, Rashmi, who was brimming with joy, said: “It was unexpected that I emerged as the district topper. I was expecting 610 and have got 11 marks more. I owe my success to my parents”.

Rashmi, who has scored cent per cent marks in Mathematics, Science and Social Science, has however lost two marks in English (98), and one each in Sanskrit (124) and Kannada (99).

According to Rashmi, apart from attending tuition classes for Maths, Science and Social Science, she had prepared a time-table at home to prepare for the exams. She was not particular on slogging till late night or waking up early in the morning.
Now that she has topped, Rashmi wants to pursue Science and make a career in engineering or research.

Naganand, the second topper with a score of 620, from Sadvidya High School, here, was also not keen on burning the midnight oil. “I was reading for four to five hours a day, while early morning hours was dedicated for memorising textbooks,” he said.

Son of Krishnamurthy, an employee at the Automotive Axles, and homemaker Hemalatha, residents of Vijayanagar Fourth Stage, Naganand wants to pursue a career in pure Science. Former president APJ Abdul Kalam is his role model.


S Abhishek, son of M J Shivaprasad and M S Latha from Kuvempunagar, a student of Jnanaganga School in the same locality has also scored 620 marks.


Deepak K, a student of VVS Pandit Nehru High School is the third topper. He has scored 619 that includes 100 each in Kannada (third language) and Mathematics, 125 in Sanskrit, 99 in both Science and English and 96 in Social Science. Ask him about his success formula, he says there was nothing specific. I studied when time permitted.

Deepak from BEML Layout, is the son of G Kumaraswamy, a manager of State Bank of Mysore, Zonal office in Mangaluru, and mother Divya Rani K, a clerk with the same bank’s regional office in Kuvempunagar, Mysuru.

Ananth N Rao from JSS High School, Metagalli has scored 618 marks. He is the son of A S Narayan Rao, Chief Welfare Inspector, South Western Railways, Mysuru, and homemaker Lakshmi.

At Marimallappa’s High School, Kiran K is the topper with a score of 617. He is the son of Kempananjappa, a Falcon Tyres employee, and Gowramma, residents of Vidyaranyapuram. Other toppers of the school are Himavarsha R and Sushmita S (615), D M Ankitha and Rakshita (612).

Said Himavarsha: “For three years, I was out of entertainment at home, with no TV to watch, after shifting from Kushalnagar to Mysuru for class eight. I expected to score well, but not to top the list”. She wants to make a career in the Defence forces.
Himavarsha is the daughter of Dr K N Ramachandra, working at the Primary Health Centre, Koppa, Periyapatna taluk, and homemaker Jyothi K.
