'Vehicles in Kodagu are on decline'

Only 1,298 vehicles were registered in the first three months of 2009

 In the first three months of 2009, only 1,298 vehicles have been registered in the district. Last year, it was 1,646 vehicles. In April, 404 vehicles, May 441 vehicles and in June, 453 vehicles have been registered. However, there is an increase in the number of two-wheeler registrations. Last year, 769 two-wheelers were registered. This yer, in the first three months, 610 two-wheelers were registered.

In April, May and June, 346 cars, 100 autorickshaw, 72 public transport vehicles, 46 omni bus, 36 trailors and 23 vans have been registered. Last year, it was 506 cars, 144 autorickshaw, 65 public transport vehicles, 17 trailors, and 25 vans were registered.

Revenue

The target was to collect Rs 15.93 crore revenue for 2009-10. Compared to last year, the revenue is also less this year. Last year, the target was Rs 16.61 crore. RTA has collected Rs 1.03 crore in the form of registration, fine and other sources in the month of April. In May, it was Rs 1.14 crore and in June, it raised to Rs 1.33 crore.

To reach the target every month, the department must collect Rs 1.32 crore. In the last three months, it has collected Rs 3.51 crore. There is shortage of Rs 46 lakh. Last year, the target was Rs 16.61 crore. However, the department could collect only Rs 15.23 crore (91 per cent), said RTO L Nanjaraje Urs.

Vehicles

The district has 77,967 vehicles till June. This included 30,949 two-wheelers (50 cc to 300cc), 16,717 cars, 6,058 jeeps, 4,847 autorickshaws, 3,867 tractors-trailors, 3,072 omni buses, 2,998 public vehicles and 2,885 power tillers.

From April 1 to June 30, the RTA has collected Rs 6,86,654 in the form of fine for violation, Urs added.
