Villagers protest against laying of railway line

Residents of villages near here and Raitha Sangha activists, on Saturday, staged a protest demonstration on the newly-laid railway line, seeking an alternative road for vehicles.

The protestors said they would not allow laying of the new railway line from Hirisave to Kirisave unless an alternative road is provided from Hirisave to Kollenahalli.

They said vehicles used the bund on Doddakere to reach surrounding villages from Hirisave, if the railway line was laid on the bund, without providing an alternative road, all villagers would suffer. “Even though we have been complaining about this repeatedly, the authorities concerned have not taken any action to address the issue,” they alleged.

Learning about the trial run of an engine on the railway track, under police protection, the villagers from Kollenahalli, Kothanahalli, and other villages, rushed to the spot and squatted on the track.

The protest demonstration was withdrawn after railway officials Ramasubbaiah and Srinivas assured that the tracks would be removed after the trial run and an alternate road would also be provided for the use of villagers.
