World of science on wheels in Udupi

The third phase of the Science Express started its voyage from Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The train is specially fabricated for the department of Science and Technology, Government of India by Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala. Speaking to Deccan Herald, Manager Sudhir Kumar Sharma said “the train will cover over 56 cities, extending upto 18,000 kms in seven months of its journey. From Udupi, the science wonder will make its stay in Calicut. Udupi is the 18th destination. The journey will be culminated at Gandhinagar on April 27, 2010.” he added.

The Science Express has 16 coaches. In its earlier two expeditions the Science Express has covered nearly 108 cities. The in charge team expects more than 10,000 students per day.
The exhibition with more than three hundred visual images, over 150 video clippings and multimedia exhibits deals extensively with cutting edge research in science and technology.

There is novel venture added to the third phase of journey that is a dedicated coach on climate change. The coach is designed by Centre for Environment Education. Another special feature is the ‘Joy of Science Lab’ designed by Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VASCSC) in a coach where students can conduct hands on experiment in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths. High School students can take part in this ‘Joy of Science Lab.’ Pejawar math Seer Sri Vishweshatheertha Sripada welcomed the Science Express  at Udupi railway station.
