Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Satish Jarkiholi on Monday filed his nomination papers as party candidate for the bypoll to Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency.

Satish submitted his papers to Deputy Commissioner, also District Election Officer, Dr K Harish Kumar.

Accompanied by Leader of Opposition in Assembly Siddaramaiah and KPCC president D K Shivakumar, Jarkiholi, sporting a green shawl, filed his nomination papers.

Satish, accompanied by former ministers M B Patil and R V Deshpande, filed second set of nomination papers. He filed third set in the presence of former MLA Feroz Sait and MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar. During his filing of fourth set of papers, MLAs Anjali Nimbalkar and Mahantesh Koujalagi were present.

Speaking to reporters, Satish Jarkiholi expressed hope that people of the constituency would stand by him and get him elected based on his works as MLC, MLA and minister for the past 20 years.

Replying to a specific query, the Yamakanamaradi MLA said, “The Congress opposes the farm laws, which are against the farmers’ interests. The farmers cell (of the party) wanted me to wear green shawl to express solidarity with the agitating farmers. Hence, I sported it during the nomination filing,” he said.
