BJP may have celeb entry for Bangalore Rural

The BJP may well field a celebrity candidate for the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency. While the state unit has recommended the name of former minister C P Yogeshwara for the seat, he is rooting for his daughter, Nisha Yogeshwar.

Yogeshwar has told the party leaders that he was not inclined to foray into national politics and instead would strive for the party's victory if his daughter was given the ticket. The party leadership, which has been searching for a "strong" candidate is considering the name of Nisha.

Politics is nothing new for the 29-year-old Nisha. She had campaigned for her father in previous elections. She had hit the road in the 2018 Assembly polls also. In fact, her name was doing rounds at that time. It was rumoured that Yogeshwar would contest from Maddur and Nisha from Channapatna.

Nisha is into films just like her father. She holds an MS from the United States and features in fashion shows occasionally.

Women contestants are a rarity in the elections to the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency. In 2004, Tejaswini Ramesh of the Congress had trounced H D Deve Gowda from the then Kanakapura LS constituency. However, she tasted defeat against H D Kumaraswamy in 2009, when it became Bangalore Rural constituency. Yogeshwar, who was a BJP candidate, secured the second highest votes. In the 2013 by-election, Anitha Kumaraswamy (JD-S) tasted defeat at the hands of D K Suresh of the Congress.

If Nisha's entry is confirmed, she will be the third person from her family to foray into politics. Yogeshwar's brother, C P Rajesh is a Ramangara Zilla panchayat member.
