Kolar BJP nominee's cars set on fire

Last Updated 24 April 2018, 21:33 IST

Two cars belonging to Omshakti Chalapathi, the BJP candidate for Kolar constituency, were set on fire by unidentified persons in the early hours of Tuesday.

Chalapathi said that the two cars parked in front of his house have been charred completely. He accused the sitting MLA Varthur Prakash of getting his cars burnt through his supporters.

“I and Varthur belong to Kuruba communty. The MLA is fearing defeat in the election as the votes of Kuruba community may split. He is resorting to coercive methods for compelling me to withdraw from the poll fray. I will not be cowed down by intimidating tactics,” he said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rajeev said that Omshakti Chalapathi has lodged a complaint stating that his cars have been burnt due to political rivalry. “The footage of CCTV cameras in front of his house and the one at a circle close to his house show bike-riding miscreants setting the cars on fire. But, the footage is not clear,” he said.
