Last Updated 14 April 2019, 17:59 IST

The Congress will take action against rebel leaders of Mandya who skipped AICC president Rahul Gandhi's campaign.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao said that disciplinary action would be initiated against N Chaluvarayaswamy and others at the right time. "We have consulted Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and leaders from our party regarding on this issue" he said, adding that the party has taken the matter seriously.

On the spat between ministers D K Shivakumar and M B Patil, he said that the issue was not related to the party.

"It is related to one community and members of the community will take a call on the matter," he said. However, they have been warned against making any contradictory remarks during elections, he added.

Shivakumar and Patil are at loggerheads after the latter lambasted Shivakumar for apologising over the Lingayat separate religion movement.

Meanwhile speaking at a convention in Mandya, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwar said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi had directed KPCC to initiate disciplinary action against party workers who have been working against coalition candiadate, K Nikhil Kumaraswamy.

Parameshwara said that as per coalition dharma, the party workers should campaign for the candidate selected by the high command. "A few might have been supporting Independent candidate Sumalatha for personal reasons. But, the entire Congress party is in support of Nikhil," he said.
