Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has said that CID should probe whether the controversy involving Additional Director General of Police R Ravidranath has any connection with an incident in Mysore where a sub-inspector had arrested a son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, about an year ago.

Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, he said the government had suspended the sub-inspector after the incident and had not revoked it till now

Commissioner of Mysore

Ravindranath was serving as the Commissioner in Mysore when the incident took place.

The coffee shop incident may have some connection with the arrest and the CID should probe this angle.

It should be probed whether the government was targeting the officer, the JD(S) leader said.

“The coffee shop incident has dented the morale of police department. The government has failed completely in handling the issue, which otherwise could have been solved in two minutes. The issue is now taking a caste angle. If dalit ministers are asked to intervene and solve the issue, then there is no need of a home minister in the State,” he added.

BJP leader S Suresh Kumar, too, came down heavily on the government on the issue and demanded that chief minister should immediately intervene and resolve it.

Media trial

“Everything is happening in media. It appears to be the media trial. If steps are not taken to resolve the issue immediately, it will erode the morale of the department,” he added.

Ravindranath visited the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday to meet Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee. But Mukherjee was not in his office at that time.

Speaking to mediapersons, Ravindranath said he wanted to find out with the chief secretary about the status of his resignation.

The chief secretary had promised to process the letter in 48 hours, he added.
