Last Updated 13 October 2018, 10:06 IST

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday and apprised him about Karnataka's concerns over the Cauvery river water sharing dispute.

The chief minister sought Modi's intervention to protect the interests of the farmers of the state.

"As per the notification issued by the Water Resources Ministry, the Cauvery Water Management Authority will gauge the Cauvery basin reservoir waters once every 10 days and take a decision on releasing the water to Tamil Nadu. Besides, the authority will take a call on which crop and when it should be grown. These things will harm our interests," Kumaraswamy had said earlier.

"We have to protect our farmers' interest. Let the central government take a decision without harming the farmers of both states," he said.

"The Centre has issued the notification to set up the Cauvery Water Management Authority without placing the issue before Parliament. Let Parliament discuss the issue and take a decision," Kumaraswamy added.
