JOIN USThough no party has been able to gain clear majority in the Mysore City Corporation (MCC), the Congress has outsmarted its traditional rival JD(S) by winning 90 of the 204 ULB seats in Mysore district, the home turf of Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah.
In the 65-member MCC council, Congress has emerged the single largest party by bagging 22 seats. It has maintained the status quo. It needs 11 seats to gain control over the MCC. The JD(S) has bagged 20 seats and BJP 12.
In Narasimharaja Assembly constituency, Congress MLA Tanveer Sait has witnessed a setback with the party losing eight seats. Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas (MLA for Kirshnaraja) too has suffered a loss of face.
In 2007, of the 20 wards in Krishnaraja Assembly segment, BJP had won 14 seats, but this time it has managed to win only eight.
In Chamaraja Assembly constituency, which was till recently represented by H S Shankarlingegowda, the Congress and JD(S) have won eight and 10 seats respectively, while BJP has grabbed one.
The Congress has gained control over four civic bodies in the district.
The three Town Municipal Councils (TMCs) of Bannur, K R Nagar and Hunsur (which were held by the JD(S) earlier) and Periyapatna Town Panchayat (TP) have gone the Congress way. No partry has gained majority in Nanjangud TMC and T Narasipura TP. The JD(S) has only managed to retain H D Kote TP.
The poll results in Mandya has come as a major embarrassment to the JD(S), as the party has lost out on 15 seats this time. The Mandya CMC has witnessed hung verdict.
In Chamarajanagar, the Cong that had captured 63 seats in 2007, managed to bag only 56 seats.
While there is hung verdict in Chamarajanagar CMC (same as 2007), the party has captured 20 of the 31 seats in Kollegal CMC. In Gundlupet TMC it has won 14 of 23 seats.
In Hassan, JD(S) has won 90 of the 180 seats. In Hassan CMC, the party has however scored a majority by bagging three additional seats this time, while Congress has lost out on two seats.
There has been a hung verdict in Arasikere and Sakleshpur TMCs and Arakalgud TP. In Channarayanapatna and Belur TMCs, JD(S) has won with 12 seats each.
In Alur TP, the KJP threw a shocker of a win with six seats.
