Man torches 10 bikes in Hoskote theatre over 'Baahubali-2' screening

A 20-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly set afire 10 two-wheelers parked inside the compound of a cinema theatre in Hoskote, 30 km east of Bengaluru, in protest against removal of a Kannada film to make way for the screening of ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’.

Santhosh, said to be mentally unsound, reached Alankar Theatre around 12.30 pm, carrying a container with two litres of petrol in it. He headed for the parking lot and got into an argument with the guard over the removal of the Kannada film, ‘Raaga’.

“You have removed ‘Raaga’ to screen ‘Baahubali-2’, which is a Telugu film. You have done injustice to a Kannada film. I am going to teach you a lesson,” he is said to have thundered before dousing the two-wheelers with petrol and setting them ablaze.

The seats of all the two-wheelers were gutted.

The shell-shocked guard raised an alarm and called for a policeman posted near the theatre. The policeman and the guard caught Santhosh and snatched the petrol container from him.

He was arrested and produced before a magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody, the police sub-inspector said.

PUC dropout
Santhosh hails from Veerenahalli village in Bengaluru East taluk. His mother works for a multinational restaurant chain while his younger brother is employed at a photocopy store in Hoskote. Santhosh had dropped out of PUC and was working at a medical store.
