H Guru, who is feared killed in Thursday’s Kashmir attack, hailed from a remote hamlet Gudigere in Mandya district.

Guru (33) was born in 1985 to Honnaiah and Chikkathayamma as the eldest of three children.

His two brothers Madhu and Anand work in Cescom and Home Guards respectively. Guru’s parents have a small laundry shop at KM Doddi. Guru had joined CRPF in 2011 and previously served in Jharkhand as part of the 94 Battalion.

Currently attached with the 82 Battalion posted in Srinagar, Guru was in his village until a week ago. On February 11, he left for Srinagar.

Working hard, Guru along with his brothers had helped the family build a new house and conducted the house-warming ceremony a year ago. About eight months ago, Guru had married Kalavathi.

His mother feared for his life and had been coaxing him to leave the job and settle in the native. However, Guru was determined to serve the nation and had told his mother not to worry unnecessarily.
