72.26% polling in ULBs in Chikkamagaluru

Elections were held for one town municipal council and four town panchayats in Chikkamagaluru district on Wednesday. A total of 72.26% polling was recorded.

There has been 71.29% voting in Kadur TMC, 81.60% voting in Sringeri, 74.95% voting in N R Pura, 74.13% voting in Koppa and 69.39% voting in Mudigere.

Out of 23,514 male voters, 17,113 have cast their votes and out of 23,950 female voters, 17,188 have exercised their franchise.

The elections were held for 23 wards in Kadur TMC and 11 wards each in the four town panchayats.

The election process was held between 7 am and 5 pm. It rained in N R Pura in the morning and there was dry weather in other places. There was a light drizzle in Sringeri in the morning.

In most of the places the polling was slow in the morning and gathered pace in the afternoon.

Candidates and the party workers had put up their booths at a distance of 200 metres from the polling booths.

There were 89 candidates in fray in Kadur TMC, 37 in Mudigere Town Panchayat, 33 in Koppa Town Panchayat, 29 in Narasimharajapura Town Panchayat and 25 candidates is Sringeri Town Panchayat.

The future of the candidates is sealed in electronic voting machines. The counting of votes will be held on May 31.
