840 flood-affected families in Kodagu to get houses

The land has been identified for the construction of houses for rain victims in Kodagu.

The houses will be constructed on 30x40 sites. The site identification process will commence on November 2, said Special Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagadish.

The officer said that a 4.60-acre site on Survey No 1/50 at K Nidugane, an 11.80-acre site on Survey No 1/13 at K Nidugane, a 4-acre site on Survey No 178/1 at Karnangeri, 9.50 acre site on Survey No 103 at Galibeedu, a 7.50-acre site on Survey No 99/3, a 7.40-acre site on Survey No 100/3 at Galibeedu, an 11.28-acre on Survey No 399 at Made, a 1.88-acre site on Survey No 347/3 at Biligeri, a 1.50-acre site on Survey No 347/3 at Biligeri, a 1.50-acre site on Survey No 54/1 at Sampaje, a 50-acre site on Survey No 13/1 at Jambooru and a 1-acre site on Survey No 17 at Kushalnagar have been identified for the rehabilitation work.

“On a whole, 110 acres of land have been identified for rehabilitation. In the first phase, site identification will be taken up at five locations,” the officer explained.

“The survey to identify the victims was taken up jointly by the Revenue Department as well as Rural Development Department. Even objections and criticism were invited for the list of identified victims. After verifying the objections, the officials have finalised the names of 840 families for the houses,” said Jagadish.

“A total of 525 houses in Madikeri taluk, 205 houses in Madikeri City Municipal Council limits, 88 houses in Somwarpet, and 23 in Kushalnagar Town Panchayat limits will be constructed. Of the 840 families, 90 victims have come forward to construct houses on their own land,” he said.

“A proposal seeking Rs 31.63 crore has been submitted to the government for providing infrastructure, development of layouts and construction of houses on the identified land,” the officer said.

He said that in the first phase, 373 sites will be developed.

“The process of handing over 50 acres of land belonging to the Horticultural Department at Madapura to the district administration is in progress. A separate proposal will be submitted for the construction of layouts in the said land,” he said.
