'Awareness canvas' draws appreciation from public

Madikeri Taluk Janapada Parishat, Rotary Misty Hills and SVEEP Committee jointly organised ‘awareness canvas’ at Raja Seat to create awareness on voting.

Inaugurating the programme, Zilla Panchayat CEO and district SVEEP Committee Chairperson K Lakshmi Priya said that the voters should not fall prey to the allurements and should think before voting.

Everyone should exercise their franchise without fail, she added.

She further stated that 10 Sakhi polling booths, five ethnic polling booths, one booth for PWD voters and a model polling booth in CMC limit have been established to ensure better polling percentage.

SVEEP District Ambassador Bhageerathi Hulithala said that rural areas record high polling percentage compared to urban areas. People in the urban areas too should cast their vote. The right to vote is given by the Constitution and reflects equality.

Kodagu District Working Journalists’ Association president B R Savita said that voting is the foundation of democracy.

Madikeri Taluk Janapada Parishat president H R Anil said that 148 students took part in the drawing competition on the theme of voting.

B K Mohan and team presented songs on the theme of the programme. Prizes were distributed to the winners of limericks and cartoon competition.

District Information Officer Chinnaswamy, District Women and Child Welfare Officer Mumtaz, SVEEP District Ambassador Ishwari, veteran folklore artiste Sullimada Gowri Nanjappa, Odagu Press Club president Ajjamada Ramesh Kuttappa, Kodagu District Janapada Parishat president B G Anantashayana and artist B R Satish were present.
