A video of Bajrang Dal workers allegedly issuing death threat and abusing District Youth Congress President and defeated Congress-JD(S) candidate from DK Lok Sabha constituency Mithun M Rai during Vijayotsava celebrations, to celebrate the victory of BJP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel, has gone viral on social media.

It was said that activists had observed vijayotsava on May 23 at Badakabail Junction in Bantwal. During the vijayotsava, an activist holding Bajrang Dal flag wearing a saffron scarf on the head is seen issuing death threat to Mithun Rai. In the video, the youth in Tulu said “ If Mithun Rai comes to trouble Bajrang Dal, then we will break his leg and hand. If needed, even head will be removed...” The activists who were with him were seen repeating the sentences.

Reacting to the video, Mithun Rai said “if they wish to remove my head, they can come in front of District Congress Committee office. My address is Congress office. My fight against those organisations that try to sow communal hate in the district will continue.”

“If the removal of my head helps to restore peace and harmony in the district, then let them do so. I am ready to sacrifice my life. I am not scared and will not run away. I will be in front of Congress office,” he said.

He said the Congress workers will file complaints against the video in all the taluks. I will file a complaint to the Superintendent of Police.

In the meantime, the police have booked case under CrPC 108 as a precautionary measure. SP Lakshmi Prasad B M said that the police are attempting to identify youth from the video that are being circulated.
