Basavanna’s teachings inspiration to all: Udupi DC

DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati and ZP CEO Sindhu Roopesh inaugurate Basava Jayanti programme in Udupi on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner Hephshiba Rani Korlapati said that Basavanna’s teachings should be an inspiration to all.

“Basavanna believed in the ideal that work is worship,” she said while presiding over the Basava Jayanti celebrations organised by district administration in association with Udupi zilla panchayat on Tuesday.

The DC said people all over the state have read the Vachanas preached by Basavanna. His preaching is relevant even in the present times, she added. The DC said that Basavanna always believed that experience was a treasure.

Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sindhu Roopesh regretted that though the country was pursuing modern thoughts, it is an irony that the caste system exists in all layers of society. She said Basavanna’s ideologies preach equality.

She said that Vachanas preached during 12th century were applicable even during the 21st century, she added.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Nisha James lauded the ‘Anubhava Mantap’ concept of Basavanna. She said the Anubhava Mantap was a model for the Constitution and Parliament. It was a reference point to democracy, James added.
