Bishop gives scholarships to poor students

Last Updated 28 May 2019, 19:09 IST

Diocese of Mangalore disbursed scholarships to the poor students pursuing higher education at Bishops House here, on Sunday.

Bishop Fr Dr Peter Paul Saldanha handed the cheques to the students.

Addressing the gathering, Saldanha said the Catholic Church is of the poor and for the poor. The money that is given to poor students comes from the savings and sacrifices done by Catholics during Lenten season.

The CODP of Mangalore Diocese organised this whole campaign and identified the poor students. Bishop motivated the students to help other poor students in a similar manner after securing jobs.

“A generous giver receives in hundred fold and follow the law of gratuitousness,” he added.

The Diocese of Mangalore disburses scholarships to poor students though CODP. Scholarship was disbursed to 89 students belonging to different faiths.

CODP Director Fr Oswald Montero also spoke on the occasion.
