‘Centre should strengthen import, export policy’

The Central government should strengthen its import and export policy, said Raitha Sangha State President Badagalapura Nagendra.

Speaking at the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha convention and discussion on coffee-pepper import policy, at APMC hall organised by Kodagu Raitha Sangha at Gonikoppa on Tuesday, he said, “The Centre has failed to strengthen import and export policy. As the government failed to bring out a policy to protect farmers, we are facing the problem of a drop in the price of farm produce. Along with the loss of crops, the farmers have to suffer from the crash in price.”

Raitha Sangha State Secretary Ravikiran Punacha said, “India has 85% of the required coffee and pepper. However, with the entry of coffee and pepper through smuggling, the prices have come down drastically. The Central government should not support such smuggling activities.”

He said, “The problems faced by the farmers have not been an election issue so far. Instead, the political parties are engaged in levelling charges against each other on scams.”
