Thousands of devotees flocked to churches to take part in the Good Friday prayer service on Friday.

Good Friday is among the most important days in the Christian calendar and parishes all over observe the occasion. The occasion begins with `Way of the Cross’, (in some churches it is held later in the day).

Church services include reading of the Passion of Christ, reciting a string of prayers, unveiling and veneration of the Cross and communion service.

Parishioners of Infant Mary Church in Bajjodi enacted a live and creative Way of the Cross at the Church grounds. Mangaluru Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha took part in the Way of the Cross at St Joseph Church in Pezar. Mother Mary Sodality of the city observed Good Friday by distributing fruits to patients in the Wenlock hospital.

Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu who distributed the fruits said: "Jesus Christ died on the cross 2,000 years ago in order to relieve man from sin. This day is celebrated throughout the world with devotion, fasting, prayer and alms-giving. The act of Mother Mary Sodality is an exemplary one, which befits the message of the day.”

Wenlock hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Julian Saldanha, Sodality President Vivian Sequeira, Secretary Ligory Fernandes and programme convenor Sushil Noronha were also present.
